Living with it: a report on technology as life

What CES 2026 told us about technology settling into daily life, and what that settlement demands from brands.

Executive Summary

CES 2026 revealed technology moving closer to routine, memory, and presence. The show was less about spectacle and more about settlement: devices that want to live with people rather than perform for them. Adoption remains uneven, shaped by tolerance rather than fascination.

What Is It Really About

The industry keeps saying intelligence. What it means is intimacy. The interfaces that mattered this year were the ones that disappeared, ambient sensing, on-device memory, assistants that wait instead of interrupting. Technology is negotiating its place in the household, and the household is negotiating back.

What Felt Genuinely Exciting

Hardware with manners. Systems that forget on purpose. Accessibility features graduating into mainstream design. And a generation of products that treat attention as something to be protected, not extracted, a thesis we have been building this company on.

The Challenges

Trust remains the bottleneck. Every ambient device is a promise about data, and most brands are not yet fluent in making that promise credibly. The gap between demo and daily life is still wide, and the cost of crossing it is paid in patience, not launches.

The Wins and Highlights

The clearest wins belonged to brands that under-promised: products that named their limits, interfaces that showed their seams, companies that treated repair and longevity as features. Restraint, it turns out, demos well.

The Underwhelms

AI as a sticker. Screens where no screen was needed. The persistent confusion of novelty with progress. If a product’s story requires the word ‘revolutionary’, it usually isn’t.

What This Means For Marketers Right Now

The brands that win the ambient era will be the ones people allow into their routines. That permission is earned with presence, consistent, useful, quiet, not with reach. Plan for tolerance. Design for the hundredth use, not the first impression.

The next phase will be decided by how technology settles into daily life. That settlement will be slow, negotiated, and largely invisible. This is the work ahead.
